The group objected to the prevailing traditional orientation toward Historicism. Three leaders were Otto Wagner, Josef Hoffmann and Koloman Moser. This movement included painters, sculptors and architects. Vienna Secession movement began with the resignation of a group of artists from the Association of Austrian Artists in 1897.

J Hofmann was one of the signature designers of the Vienna Secessionist style of the early 1900s.- This seems to be an unusual example with a cane seat surface which appears to enhance the lightness of the overall aesthetics of the form.- J Hoffmann designs embraced the beauty of geometry in pieces that feature grids and angular form.- Secessionist (Vienna Bauhaus Secession). This is a successful, interesting and playful use of geometric squares and semi-circles. Designed by Josef Hoffmann, architect / designer for Cabaret Fledermaus, Vienna possibly collaborated with Gustav Siegel (1905/07).
